Statement for the Flower Series
In this series of flower paintings the emphasis is capturing light and shadow
that is so fleeting. The color and nuances of flowers have always intrigued
and fascinated me, and hope that others viewing my oversized petals
will find them as breath taking as I did painting them.
I find with each painting the flowers God created become even more
interesting and lovely. I look forward to spring, as many of the flowers grow
in my garden, with no help on my part for their beauty, and are painted for
the most part in their natural setting.
"He set before me the book of nature; I understood how all the flowers He created
are beautiful, how the splendor of the rose and the whiteness of the Lily do not take
away the perfume of the little violet or the delightful simplicity of the daisy. I understood
that if all flowers wanted to be roses, nature would lose her springtime beauty, and the
fields would no longer be decked out with little flowers."
Therese of Lisieux
Luke 12:27: “Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,
yet I tell you, even Solomon in all this glory-his splendor and magnificence-
was not arrayed like one of these.”
